Openair Cinema

We went to the Openair Cinema at Mrs Macquaries Point this week. We were going to see The Informant! with Matt Damon and thought it was similar to other open air cinemas where you turn up with a picnic and sit on the grass. It wasn't. It's a bit more commercial this one and there are proper seats and everything. So we ate our picnic on the grass at the top of the hill outside, which was no bad thing, washed down with a bottle of red. Best part of the night as it turned out.

We got into the cinema about 15 minutes before the start, had a beer and took our seats. There were a few drops of rain to contend with but they handed out some plastic ponchos that should keep the rain at bay.

As the opening credits rolled the heavens opened and it rained like it hadn't rained for about a year. Sat through it for a while but it was impossible to concentrate on the film. The rain was pissing down, and I mean pissing down, and collecting in a little hollow of poncho between my legs. Soaked we were and lasted about 45 minutes before heading home for a warm shower and a cup of tea. Loads of people stayed for the whole thing though, not that the film was even that good. You wouldn't get that back in Belfast.

It's a nice idea and the view is superb but we timed it badly.
