The meeting with Austereo went well on Friday afternoon and they are to lodge an application to sponsor me directly for the duration of the contract period, which is looking like finishing sometime in May at this point.
Apparently, no recruitment companies can sponsor anyone on the 457 visa throughout Australia at the minute. Hopefully that will have sorted itself out by May and the sponsorship can then be transferred to the agency as originally planned.
What this all means, most importantly, is that my visa should be through in around 2 weeks as Austereo already have the right to sponsor people. However, the Christmas period will probably shift this into early in the New Year. I have another meeting with the HR people tomorrow to get all the forms checked out again and get the ball rolling.
So, after the meeting on Friday I hung around for a few beers and then went home, where Sam had cooked a roast chicken dinner. She also invited me to a BBQ on Saturday night that was in one of her mate's apartment overlooking Bondi Beach. You could spit on the surfers if you were so minded. All very pleasant seafood finished off with a 3:00am dip in the ocean.
Woke up late on Sunday and went straight out to meet Dave Wood to watch the Ricky Hatton fight. The pub was rammed by the time Hatton was fighting and most of the support was for him so once the fight ended everyone cleared off pretty sharpish. We then did our usual trick and did a pub crawl around Darlinghurst and Kings Cross. Dave is off to Moreton Island next weekend so I'm thinking of joining him although it is the Technology Team lunch on Friday afternoon so might not be able to make it up there in time. Never turn down a free lunch is what I say.
