It's World Youth Day in Sydney this week, which means closed roads and traffic chaos for everyone, whether you believe in God or not. Thankfully, I get the train. Although I had to walk to the Rocks last night from work for some drinks - no other way to get there, but it's only a 30 minute walk.
The pope arrives into the harbour tomorrow in a boat-a-cade (my new favourite word) and there are 500,000 pilgrims expected in the city. It will be busy. There are loads of luminous hat wearing, flag waving groups all over the city already. I heard some of them singing on the way home, "Go Jesus. Go Jesus Go!" Happy crowd, I'll give them that.
At the same time and to celebrate the end of the financial year our department are taking a collective half day tomorrow for some ten pin bowling action. That's just to keep us out of the pub for a little longer.
Other than that it was a quiet weekend just past. Went to see Mongol at the cinema on Saturday night with Sam and then had some Ragnarok pizza from the newly opened Svens Viking Pizza shop. Spicy that. Certain Facebook pictures gave me an urge to start exercising again so took a run round Centennial Park on Sunday. Tried to watch the Western Bulldogs on Sunday with some friends but it was the only match not on so went to see some local bands at the Hopetoun that night instead. Grungy little place but it has potential.
