Last weekend was the City 2 Surf and I'm very pleased to say I made it round the 14km in one piece. Eighty one minutes and three seconds is the magic number and you can see it for real here. There's also a link to a video on that page and although it says there's no photos of me finishing, just watch the video and look out for the arms aloft coming from the distance in the cool black Carlton cap.
So I got round without stopping and I must say it was a very entertaining experience. I counted 3 jazz bands, numerous DJs and one metal cover band (on the roof of the Golden Sheaf and singing Van Halen's Jump when I passed) on the way round. It was quite a sight running down William Street with 75,000 people in front. I was in the "Back of Pack" for the late entrants, walkers and pram pushers. In fact, the winner had finished before I started.
Now don't be alarmed, this is not going to turn into some good living blog. Earlier in the year we had a Lotto syndicate win in work which won enough money to warrant an afernoon off for a long boozy lunch. The lunch turned into a liquid dinner and although it wasn't a late night it probably wasn't what Steve Cram would have done in Moscow. That was on Thursday thankfully so the rest of the weekend was very quiet up to Sunday afternoon. At that point we did drink free beer on the beach courtesy of Leighton Holdings. Even got a little burnt in the winter sun. No matter how long I stay here I'll always be rubbish in the sun.
Rounded off the day and weekend with a hearty steak in the good old Welcome with Lia. Very satisfied and will most probably do the same thing again next year.
