Bay Run 2009

Well, I completed my first ever fun run in Australia on Sunday and got round in a reasonable time. I have competed, if that's the word for it, in one other fun run in 1986 when Everybody Wanted to Run the World. You can see from this that I wasn't on the winners podium in Rozelle, but made it round all the same in 38 minutes and 54 seconds flat. Lia got round in 43 minutes flat. And she's got shorter legs than me!

This weekend is the City 2 Surf so I've decided to ban alcohol for the week. One whole week. Probably should have done the same last week but had a couple of nights out seeing Friendly Fires at the Manning Bar on Tuesday and Doves at the Metro on Wednesday. You can't go to a gig without a beer can you? No, you can't.

There was definitely something in the air last week. Had a very impromptu beer in the pub at Friday lunchtime that stretched out for a few hours and finished the week nicely. And then on Saturday afternoon met up with a mate who was visiting from Melbourne. We had a bit of a crawl around the Rocks as usual starting at The Australian. Was fully intending to pull the plug on proceedings at 7pm but ended up in Capitan Torres Spanish restaurant for a massive feed, garlic, wine, garlic, garlic and beer. Lia joined us for that too and yet somehow we all got round the course on Sunday.

To celebrate we had a late lunch at Kazbah in Balmain, which served a fine Lamb tagine breakfast. Then played some lawn bowls at Waverton Bowling Club, which is a fairly shabby old place but is blessed with superlative views over the harbour. And that was the weekend over and now I must knuckle down to some serious good living or 14kms will be beyond me!
