March Madness

It's been an absolutely hectic couple of weeks and I'm starting to question my level of alcohol consumption. Only a little mind.

It was always going to be busy with number of bands playing we were very keen to see. It was a bit of 90s comeback altogether really. Pavement, Pixies and Massive Attack were all in town. I find it hard to pick the best of the three and none of them disappointed in any way. My favourite was probably Pavement though as they remind me most of my rapidly disappearing youth. In saying that the Pixies had some great visuals in the background and they played Doolittle from start to finish. The encore of "Where is my Mind" sealed the deal to make it a quite brilliant night. And Massive Attack played at the Opera House Forecourt, which is a peerless venue for any kind of event. Took some pictures that are all rubbish as usual. There are some better ones of the Pixies and Pavement here.

Both local versions of "football" have started in earnest as well. And in a winning fashion for both and the West Tigers in NRL and the Western Bulldogs in AFL, who won their first trophy of any kind in 40 years. And even that was some mickey mouse trophy. Although hopes are high for them to win only their second Premiership after a 54 year hiatus. Despite their similarity to City I'm supporting them in any case.

The egg shaped ball chasing has caught on somewhat as well and I've been playing touch AFL for the past few weeks. Our team even got to the Grand Final but were well beaten on the day, which was last Sunday. It's a mixed game and the hardest part is not colliding with the female players, one of whom I did whack on Sunday. I apologised profusely but she played no further part in the game. Whoops. The guys I play proper football with reckon I may as well be playing Frisbee.

Lia plays the NRL version and I helped them out a few weeks back. That was another defeat.

And of course we celebrated St Patrick's Day with heavy pub lunch and just a few Guinness at the Welcome. Was too busy though and called it early. In another sign of my disappearing youth, just getting too old for all that queuing around for a pint.
