Didn't get that job I applied for with Origin Energy, which is a bit rubbish, but there was someone else who applied for the job who was more of a geek than me. What a loser he must be.
However, I've 2 interviews on Monday (tomorrow), both of which look promising for different reasons. The first is with a radio company based in St Kilda. That'll be a 6 month contract based in a cool location by the beach. On Tuesday I've an interview with one of the biggest employers in Melbourne within the financial sector. This is also a 6 month contract, but with an expectation from the company that it will become permanent. This will involve them providing full business sponsorship for immigration and employment for at least the next 2 years. Again, it will depend on the interviews and the number of like minded geeks around.
Last night saw Andy Smith DJing at the Espy. He was absolutely fantastic but only the warm up for A-Trak who is Kanye West's tour DJ and the world turntable champion. A-Trak reminded me of a seventies style metal guitar or drum solo - technically brilliant but like watching someone having a wank so I didn't hang around for his full set. Taxi for Mike - driven by a Polish guy. Get everywhere those Eastern Europeans.
Didn't strike up any meaningful conversations all night, which suprised me given the volume of the music and my crystal clear accent. So, I rang our Dave at 2:00 in the morning complaining about having nae mates here yet, very quickly spending all the credit in my phone in the process. What a whinger!
Since the last post I did actually make it to the races for Ladies Day. What a genius idea that is. Loads of birds in expensive dresses and hats, blokes in suits and gambling. Was home asleep by 6:00pm completed dehydrated and sunburnt. There was a plane skywriting words above the races so we got JESUS LOVES and then, oddly, DONUT.
Off to Sydney next week to see Chris and join him watching England get absolutely hammered at cricket. Took the rash decision to get the bus as it will save me about $40 - that's about 16 quid. 16 pounds I'll be thinking about for 10 long hours on the bus.
