St Kilda Festival

Met Alex on Friday night, one of the lads who was here to see the cricket over Christmas. Ended up going for a few beers in town at Transport and Robot. The cricket was on again in the finals of the tri-nations series, which unbelievably, England won. We didn't go the MCG, just watched it in the pub, although it was visible in the distance. First match I could have gone to that I didn't go to, so what does that tell you?

Tried some Olympic lifting on Saturday morning. That shit hurts.

It was the St Kilda Festival on Sunday so headed down there with Gail and Tara. The festival day is huge and they close off a load of the roads by the beach to let people walk around and eat and drink between various music, comedy and film stages. We only ever walked for about 5 minutes before stopping for a beer somewhere or other so it was basically a pub crawl of 10's of thousands of people. Wandered around like that for most of the day and then spent some time at the Jazz, Blues and Funk Stage. Saw some decent bands there - good deployment of horn sections - including Ross Irwin Soul Special and Labjacd.

One disappointment was the closure of the Slingslot ride due to high winds. I was keen to get on it again after New Years Eve but it wasn't to be. Still a big child really. However, it's a small burden to bear considering a lot of houses were without power for about an hour due to the 100+ Km/H winds.

Called into Young and Jackons for a refreshing beer on the way home and got talking to a couple of Aussie lads about how shit Australia had been in the finals. They did most of the complaining and I was happy to agree.
