AFL Grand Final Weekend

Last weekend was meant to be my quiet weekend before heading out to Randwick for the races this weekend coming, which is also the start of Daylight Savings, the NRL Grand Final and a long weekend with Monday a public holiday. Didn't quite turn out that way.

It was the AFL Grand Final on Saturday between Geelong and Hawthorn, which Hawthorn won in a turn up for the books. I watched the match in a pub called the The Rose over in Chippendale - you have to seek out the AFL pubs in Sydney as they prefer NRL over this way. There was a decent crowd out for the game, including the girl who I'd sent that text message to the other week. Turns out she did get the message after all and so that particular Seinfeld episode is firmly over.

We stayed out in Surry Hills for a while and then went over to Bondi Junction to a flat just round the corner from my house. A couple of guys who live there were going to some fancy dress party. I found a mullet wig and Hawaiian shirt to wear and we left in two taxis to get to the party on Ocean St but apparently there is more than one Ocean St. So, I turned up at the door of the party house with my bogan mullet wig carrying a load of beer. Beside me is a scouse lad dressed as Pamela Anderson with massive comedy breasts, make up and a couple of bottles of wine. The guy who opened the door (with large dog in tow) was sure there was no party on in his house, which was clearly evident. Sean the scouser says, "Is this number 15 or 25"? It didn't matter, we had the wrong street altogether. I was absolutely pissing myself on the way back down the front steps.

The lot in the other taxi had got the correct address but they decided the party was shit anyway so by the time we worked out where it was they were back in Bondi Junction. Off we went and watched the Liverpool derby with some kebabs.

Had been out on Friday night as well seeing Jano DJ in Kings Cross. Managed to lose the pub I was in and went home early on the train. Probably for the best that. Spent Sunday over in Balmain again after being there all of the weekend before last as well. We were at the Welcome sipping some excellent Guinness and then Magners for it is now getting warmer and the season for cider is upon us.
