Been a while since I've updated the good auld blog mainly because it's now the summertime and surely not the time to be couped up inside. No, no. So, since the last update I've been kept busy with the Sydney Festival and the many gigs that have been on. All of the gigs I mentioned last time were fantastic. I lost my voice at Gomez shouting at them playing all of Bring it On but still was whooping around on that Sunday for Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings. They were superb in all their Blues Brothers style horn section glory.
The weekend after that we went down to Jervis Bay, which is about 3.5 hours south of Sydney. I forgot to bring my camera unfortunately as it was picture perfect down there. Slightly reminiscent of back home as it was pretty green although the sun was shining all the way unlike back home. Went down to meet Lia's dad, Commander Douglas in HMAS Cresswell. Hope that doesn't mean this blog gets classified.
We stayed on a naval base with it's own private, white-sanded beach with beautiful clear blue water. All the houses were massive and well spread apart so it wasn't like Full Metal Jacket or anything like that. I made my impression by the way, trying to ride a postie bike. Jay, Lia's brother told me where to change the gears, how to rev it etc, but failed to mention where the brake was. Off I go like a wee kid and then realised I had no idea how to stop, which clearly had an impact on my sense of steering. Hit a clump of hedges and went head over handlebars onto the grass. Was rolling round the garden pissing myself laughing along with the rest of the family who were looking on. Except Lia, she missed it as she'd already taken off on another bike that I was trying to follow.
Spent that Sunday diving off the pier and swimming in Huskisson with some big sting rays floating around. Perfect. Until we were half way home and just about out of petrol in the middle of nowhere. That wasn't so much fun for a while but we made it alright in case you're worried.
We had a long weekend this weekend. Took Friday off for the Big Day Out (Neil Young was playing at the BDO and was the highlight for me) and Monday was Australia Day when we listened to Triple J's Hottest 100 in the Annandale. Friday was melting and Saturday was 39 degrees - a VB has never been so well deserved. Sunday was much cooler and it's been pissing down ever since although it's going to be hot again for the rest of this week.
