Winter's Coming

As it heats up back home it's starting to get cold over here. Have started wearing a coat or a jumper again so it's definitely cooling down. So, we've cranked up the little wood fire in the kitchen and it's a winner. Well, Lia has as I'm not so good at lighting fires.

Saw Dylan Moran last Sunday night in the State Theatre. He was hilarious. Dave went with us and had needed cheering up following the demolition of Ricky Hatton by Manny Pacquiao. Dave and I watched the Hatton fight in Cheers and found ourselves with a bit more time up our sleeves than expected during the afternoon. So we went to see Wolverine in the cinema to stay out of the pub for a bit. Absolute rubbish it is, but at least I had a bit of a kip. Lia joined us for that as well and was clearly well impressed. Dylan Moran was the best thing about that day by a long way.

Went to a music trivia night on Tuesday hosted by EMI. Our team (from work) was terrible but the questions were rock hard. Unlike the beer, which was free all night. There were a few bands playing between rounds as well including Bob Evans who did very well to keep playing despite a mid song power cut in every single song they did. I told him so at the bar later and he said, "If you get served first will you get me a bourbon and coke?" What a moment.

So that meant I missed the Champions League semi-final win over Arsenal although I made sure to record it thanks to Mr Foxtel. Had some good old Thai on Wednesday night at Nood in Balmain by way of celebration.

Been a relatively quiet weekend so far. Were going to go to a gig in Newtown last night but didn't get there as Lia has a kidney infection.

Two things that remind how great Australia is. One is the picture below - that's people playing 2-UP last week on Anzac Day.

The second is this from the AFL yesterday and the game between Brisbane and Richmond:

"both sides couldn’t be faulted for a lack of courage, especially Brisbane Lion Troy Selwood and Richmond’s Alex Rance. Their head clash while going for a low ball on the member’s wing knocked both of them out cold. Play was held up for four minutes while Rance was taken to Epworth Hospital for scans."

The guy who was taken to hospital has two fractures in his skull and when they were talking about it on one of the review shows this morning described it as, "not a bad result for the lad." Bonkers.
