Been a while since I wrote something here as my time spent online gets progressively filled by Facebook.
Anyway, have moved out of Kent St and into a unit in Paddington, just of Oxford Street. Moved in with an Aussie lad called Simon who seems pretty sound although I think I'm old enough to be his dad. Just moved in last night but already had a more meaningful conversation than the previous couple of months.
Had a guy round to clear up the extensive red wine stains on the carpet of the old flat. He looked and acted like Napoleon Dynamite, but this was of no help in cleaning the carpet of the now permanent staining. It will have to be re-carpeted according to the management of the building. Goodbye bond.
Enough of that. Before moving, had an eventful time last weekend. There was the much anticipated post-work drinks outing around Sydney. We went to a few bars around town - Bungalow 8 was one. Then finished up in Kings Cross until the wee hours - the final resting place of many alcohol fueled nights.
Went to Strathfield on Saturday to do some computer chicanery for a girl called Debbie from work. Should have taken an hour, but took about 4. Thanks boozing. Missed the Bledisloe Cup as a result, but did get to the pub to meet Mary Anne from work in time for the "soccer". Australia lost in both games - what a country. Went for further beer and jagerbombs in some bar in the north shore where the "Pianoman" has been playing for years. And yes, he did sing the Billy Joel song.
Have another flatmate, Michelle - another Austereo employee, lined up to move in with soon and went to meet her on Sunday in Balmain, which is where we're looking for a house. Balmain has more pubs per square mile (kilometer here, I suppose) than anywhere else in Sydney apparently. Say no more.
Saw a brilliant jazz band there, followed by an equally good blues band. Definitely a great area of the city but means returning to public transport. And a quiet weekend.
