Blue Mountains and Black Keys

Was as good as my word and got a doona and went to Newtown over the weekend. It just so happened that the mighty Black Keys were playing at the Enmore Theatre there on Sunday night so went to that gig. What a great band. There were two support acts - one of which was a one man band wearing a silver helmet that covered his eyes, making him blind, and a denim jacket with loads of flashing lights on it. Bob Log III was his name. Part of his set involved a ventriloquist routine featuring his guitar as a puppet pleading not to have it's strings hit so hard. Weirdo, but funny.

Tried to stay up and watch the end of the Premiership season. They were showing the Wigan v Sheffield Utd game in the local so caved in at half-time and went to bed.

Spent Saturday up at the Blue Mountains. It's about 2 hours west of the city by train and is a load of mountains. Was intending to do some trekking around but the area I went to (Blackheath) was burnt out last year in a massive bush fire and most of the walking tracks were closed. Was still walking all day so maybe that's just as well. Had a Australian Bob burger up there - burger with beetroot!? - from Friar's Tucker takeaway. See what they've done there? Was walking for a while with an old chap from the Netherlands who'd moved out to Oz 35 years ago and then ditched Sydney for a quiet life up in the hills. It was very quiet right enough.
